Does anyone know was it economics? Political reasons? Many Germans live here in the states and there are many in South America also.

Protestant Germans are, relative to Anglo-Americans, very close genetically, religiously, somewhat culturally, and they speak a similar language. That's why there haven't been very many restrictions on their entry to the country.

That may be true but does not answer the question. People only leave if something bad is happening where they live or they are offered something. Also, in the beginning the Anglos and Germans did not get along as closely as you may think. The Anglos were very afraid of the German language overtaking English in the Colonial period at least in some areas.

Pennsylvania Dutch came because of religious tension and war in the Rhineland, and also because Penn invited them because they were skilled and good farmers.

Actually the German wealth is a new phenomenon. An average German before the WW1 was quite poor, same thing between the wars and obviously immediately after the WW2.

For fans of Hitler: also during his pre war reign, the average German was considerably less wealthy than an average Brit or an average American.
