I had family who served in the Russian Army too. My uncles family did and he said its a pretty big problem, but it was much worse during the Communist regime. And official statistics, as well as a growing number of groups dedicated to uncovering the causes behind their sons deaths, are kinda hard to ignore. Theres literally a term for this specific type of hazing.

The Russian military isnt a modern fighting force. They only recently invested billions into their military. They still use Cold War era Kalashnikovs and RPGs to some extent. Also, their navy is, in all honesty, a joke. Its not really surprising, considering this has always been the case with the Russian military. Ill-equipped, badly trained, and their only real strength being numbers.

My question is, why do you care? You're an American.

Anyone who claims something is propoganda is 9/10 times full of shit. Yes, there are gays in Russia. Yes, some Russians are gay. Problem is its hard to find identifiable gays in Russia because Russian culture is homophobic, just like American culture as a whole used to be, and Southern culture still is. I happen to not be straight, but I refuse to be some flamboyant ponce, and Ive been told no one can tell by looking at me or hearing me. I dont give folks the idea that Im not straight. Being LGBT has some negative stereotypes, many of which are true. One of them being the percieved weakness of homosexual and bisexual men. Id rather not be associated with that.
