Well there is Levantine input into the population and some North African also. No one said these types were the majority, just that they exist in higher proportion than elsewhere in Southern Europe.

I have never visited Southern Italy, but I believe that exotic looking individuals are more common there than in other parts of Southern Europe.

Yes, then we agree. I do not think exotic types are the majority, just that they are more visible there than elsewhere. Compared to places like Albania or Greece you also do not have a minority of Slavic types, so this makes them look more homogeneously Mediterranean, whereas compared to Iberians, they do not look as Western European. They have their own look.

South Slavs don't always look very Slavic. Don't S.Italians look closer to Balkans than to Levantines for example? (excluding some Sicilians and Calabrese). Couldn't that guy Aspar fit in South Italy?
