Traditional Maniot song, first sung in the paleo-maniot dialect from Maniot pirates 400 years ago:

    English:

    Like the sea roughens
and always fights with the rocks
    that's how I roughen too
and I always fight with the Vlahs*.
    Like the mountains roughen
and they always fight with the snow
    that's how against my enemies
    I will be roughen forever.
The Turks never set their foot in
    in any Maniot village
we've been taught there's no good
    more valuable than freedom.

*Vlahs is a derogatory term for non-Maniot Greeks.
    5 Stages of Grief:

Denial: The initial stage: "It can't be happening." Maniot is on top of me.
Anger: "Why ME? It's not fair?!" (either referring to God, oneself, or Maniot perceived, rightly or wrongly, as "responsible")
Bargaining: "Just let me stay to post another day Maniot, please."
Depression: "I'm so sad, why are you picking on me Maniot?"
Acceptance: "It's going to be OK." There is always Skadi.

    One more from North-East Lithuania:

A rough translation of the lyrics:
    The horse is neighing
    Beyond the little gates
    Let's go, dear sister
    To open the gates
    To let the horse in
    - You dear horse,
    You fair one,
    Where have you left
    Our dear brother?
    - Your dear brother
Is at the end of the field
He is lying on his back
    He is counting the stars
    He is hunting the winds

A popular West Lithuanian folk dance "Lil' Bear"

    The lyrics:
    We're dancing a little bear,
The bear is dancing - it's fur is sheding
Should it not dance - it's fur wouldn't shed
    U-uh-uh-uh u-uh-uh-uh...

This is modern, from 1918, but very "folkish" march for the White Guards, as the people and places mentioned are part of modern folklore.
My ancestor died in Vilppula, I got his picture in my wall.

The english lyrics are a bit off but you get the idea, they really ment and lived those words so no BS.

The never felt they where enslaved, they felt slavery was coming from Russification violating their autonomy and later Bolsevism breaking the camels back.
The same theme is in Finlandia, slavery is coming and it has to be avoided at all cost.
A small error in translation but significant, it goes to the heart of Finnish nationhood.

    Correct translation:

"We will never take the harness of slavery to bend us down."

Finns are welcome to offer better ones.
