No matter what anyone else says to you, just remember that there is no proven evidence whatsoever that an afterlife exists. That being said, it also hasn't been technically dis-proven either. It's a matter of belief, that's why religious people have "faith".
I will say this. The possibility of an afterlife existing is very unlikely. What physical form and mental state would we exist in? Suppose you are in a motorcycle crash and you incur severe brain damage. You live 20 more years of your life in a wheelchair and without knowing anything about your surroundings or having any self-awareness. In what mental state would you be in during the afterlife? Would you go back to the way you were 20 years ago? Will you lose your real identity? None of it is clear. There's no reason to waste your life believing in something with such life-long implications.
The Big Bang is what shaped our universe and there is hardcore proof/evidence supporting the theory, unlike the non-existent proof that points to any sort of spiritualism or an after-life.
