Pontians like every Greek have relation to Ancient Macedonians. They too have fought for Macedonia. The Greek war for Independence was started by a Pontian Greek. They have been living in Macedonia for over 100 years and they consider all of Greece’s history their own because they have been part of the Greek nation since antiquity. Being isolated by other Greeks have different genetics just like Northern Italians have different genetics from Sicilians or Northern French from Southern. But that’s not an excuse to deny them their Italian or French history. Already in Roman times a great number of Southern Greeks were living in Macedonia and vice versa. Just like today a great number of Greeks from all over Greece live in Athens.

Even the Cypriots are more related to Macedonians than the Slavs and Peonians and Illlyrians who have always been their historical enemies. When Alexander took Tyre he was helped by the Cypriot king Pnytagoras who was descended from Achilles like Alexander, and supplied most of the navy. The Macedonians and the Cypriots were brothers. Cyprus was part of Alexandrian Egypt and kept its ties with the Greek world all the way until the present.

FYROM can become a good neighbour by ending its ILLEGAL monopolizing use of the GREEK name of Macedonia.If you read Herodotus you will find out that Macedonia, Ionia, and Achaia were ETHNIC terms and NEVER accepted as geographic terms by the Greeks. They moved with the people. Macedonia was the land where the Macedonian Greek lived, whether it be in Greece or on the planet Mars.

The Slavs NEVER used the term Macedonia or any of this derivatives in their entire history until Tito used it to make illegal territorial claims against Greece. They have no right to use a Greek tehnic term when this term has been used by Greek and ONLY Greeks for 3000 years and refers to a part of Greece. The FYROMian constitution expressly made territorial claims against the Greek region of Macedonia. They are making illegal clams against Greek territory and obviously the want to ethnically cleanse it since the FYROMians deny that the Macedonians were even Greek.

The questshould be asking is why wont the FYROMians stop being racially offensive and insulting to the people of Greece. If they had any appreciation for the history of the region the would not be trying to pass themselves of as "Macedonians" and degrade its orginators. The Slavs NEVER used Macedonia as either a racial or geographic term until the time of Tito.

Macedonians and Macedonia are integral to the history and heritage of modern Greeks. Tito and the revisionists of Fyrom have created a totally false history of the West Bulgarian people there in attempts to first deny their Bulgarian heritage and second to have claims on the real Macedonia area in the north of Greece. The evidence of this is readily available, and it basically forms a picture of denying the history and heritage of the Greeks and the mediaeval Bulgarians. Any attempts to claim "well it's geographic" anything is part of the scam. they have lost any and all rights to geographic anything by their attempts to distort history.

What local economy. Imagine if Slovenia changed its official name to Parma and begun calling their Slovenian language Parmegiane. The people of Parma, would lose the right to call their products parmegiane because its exclusive rights will now belong to the STATE of Parma (former Slovenia). They will be the ones that will now have the monopoly of the name because they will be a STATE while the Italian region of Parma will be a region.

Likewise, Fyrom will monopolize all the rights of Macedonians, and the Macedonians of Greece will ask for permission from Fyrom to even name their University of Macedonia. Countries have gone to courts for much less important reasons. For example the word Champagne for France, the name and word has being protected by the French in all the courts of the world, because it originates from the French region of Champagne.

Austria blocked Slovenia’s entry into the eu until Slovenia removed from its coins Austrian historical figures. In the case of Greece Skopje's appropriate the whole identity of Macedonians, in addition to the name, the symbols, the history and the cultural heritage of Macedonia.
