I don't think these samples are fair. First of all this section should belong to "Germans" section, but anyway, I've been there and I can assure you that "Austrians" (the ones that are of native origin) look nothing but German, with very many people of unmistakeable German appearance such as Arnold Schwarzenegger... If you are in a small town and look at people's faces, there is no doubt you are in (historical) Germany, because these features (mine included) appear nowhere but among German people...

Austrians are ethnic Germans but as with any nation there are regional differences, which they generally share with Bavarians, Liechtensteiners and Swiss Germans.

Austrians are ethnic austrians. We are descended from Germmanic peoples, Romans, Celts and even Illyrians and Slavs as well. A rather high percentage of Haplogroups J2 and E3b (More commonly found in Italy) show up within the Austrian population.

^ It's true that Austrians share some traits with Italians, more specifically Northern Italians. My paternal grandparents were Austrian and Swiss Italian and they were pretty similar-looking.

The majority of Austrians are still Germanic.

I think Austrians should probably be classified as ethnic Germans. It's just wherever one people comes in close proximity with another, there will be mixing and shared traits like Germany with Denmark or the Netherlands and Austria with Slovenia or Italy.

Culturally, Austrians are germanic (southern), as well as sharing close genetic ties with other southern germans. They have a seperate history and are a seperate people, nonetheless.
Bavarians can pass as Austrians and Austrians Bavarians, though.
