I heard that too, from men.

Notice how awkwardly the German tries to impress her by saying a few words in her language here.
    But sometimes it backfires

I think that Slavic cultures which have historically been expansive (examples: Russia, Poland, Serbia) are proud of their Slavic heritage. On the other hand, Slavic cultures which have historically been submissive (examples: Belarus, Slovenia, Czechia) are less proud of it.

The nature of Polish Slavic pride is often misunderstood because foreigners overlook our expansive past.

You have Bulgaria as opposite example. Actually I think some Bulgarians are proud slavs, but they often speak about Bulgars and Thracians while Serbs only speak about Slavic roots.
How is Belarus less proud of being Slavic when most slavic pagan rituals and celebrations are preserved there ?

I mean just look at my DNA results: https://www.theapricity.com/forum/sh...ingDNA-results

It is evidence of superiority of Polish culture, how we successfully subdued and Polonized (Slavicized) so many different ethnic groups.

Российские генетики: белорусы и поляки - близнецы-братья, а русские даже не славяне = Russian geneticists: Belarusians and Poles are twin brothers, and Russians are not even Slavs

Poles and Belarusians are Slavicised Balts

Bulgaria wasn't submissive - it did create some Empires - even though it was originally founded by a Non-Slavic tribe.

But those originally Non-Slavic Bulgars quickly started to identify as Slavs, to speak Slavic, and mixed with Slavic nobility.

Modern England was also established by foreigners (by the Normans after 1066 AD) and yet they are generally proud of being English.

That's because they have a long history of being expansive. And the ruling Norman elite eventually became Anglicized.

They also have legends like the one about Robin Hood which reassure them that Anglos eventually won against their evil Norman sheriffs.

There is also exaple of Slovakia which was completely subdued to Hungary for most of history, yet they preserved slavic language and today they are very proud Slavs. It's more complex than that.

Are you sure that Slovakia is any different than Czech Republic ???

I think so. Slovak TA members have been pro-Slavic. There is slovak man that is client of my mom, and he often speaks how we are both slavic nations and how there is certain closeness in culture. Imo Slovaks are way prouder Slavs than Croats, I think more so than Czechs too.
