Default Holy Crown of Hungary: King of The Turks

The Holy Crown of Hungary is arguably the most important physical embodiment of the Hungarian nation. No king of Hungary is considered legitimate unless crowned with the Hungarian Holy crown. It has transcended empires and dynasties, the multiple ascents and falls of the Hungarian nation, and remains now in this day closely guarded in the central dome of Hungarian Parliament for all visiting to behold. The Crown has just as much myth as it does fact surrounding it. One such legend, recorded within the Chronicon Pictum (Képes Krónika), says that a holy crown was promised to a descendant of Attila by Pope Leo I, during peace negotiations with the Hunnic leader who was threatening to conquer Rome. Another legend is that the Holy Crown is reinforced with wood from the cross that Jesus was crucified upon. As truth and lore swirls around this national relic, examining the Crown itself gives rise to some of the most poignant insights about the Hungarian identity.

Looking closely among the ornate decorations, we see a picture of Géza I (named after the earlier Grand Prince Géza of the Magyars, father of the first Hungarian king). Around him, is a Greek inscription, reading "ΓΕΩΒΙΤΖΑϹ ΠΙΣΤΟϹ ΚΡΑΛΗϹ ΤΟΥΡΚΙΑϹ"....

"Géza I, faithful King of the Turks"

Despite being lost and won, torn by fate from our nation's borders as well as hidden within it from invaders, the relic symbolizing our heritage and our people has stood the test of time. Only the future will tell what the world and its maps will be like, but wherever Hungarians gather, there is the Hungarian nation.

No surprise, a historical fact that I have first read in Osman Karatay's 'The Origin of the Turks' Prof. Naciye Güngörmüş (Ankara University, Hungarology Dept) writes in her paper called 'Eastern Effects on Magyar Personal Names' as follows: ''It is no wonder why Magyars are called Turks, Onogur or Ungar in old historical sources for they were dragged to northern Caucasia and Kuban region then to Carpatia basin due to Avar-Sabir movement in migration times.''

She also adds Sarolta, the name of the daughter of II.Gyula and wife of Geza and the mother of first christan Magyar king István is of Turkic origin. All the academics agree that her name is Turkic and means 'white flower' or 'lady with white face'. It is meaningful considering 'sari' means white in old Turkish.

Moreover Byzantine emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus (948-952 AD) called Magyars as Turks and their land as Turkland (Turkiye) in his book 'De Administrando Imperio' and also called Arpad as the 'Great prince of Turks'

Not at all. I'm sure you have seen the replies I've done to other threads as well as the threads I've started too. I am proud of our unique history of yesterday and of today, and just like the crown, it makes up an important part of who I am. Spreading the culture around here and learning about others is just as fun. Met some great people to talk to here already, and made some great contacts too, both casual and academic. Want to keep learning until the end of my days lol.

It's not trolling. Hungarians (in their basis) are hardly related with Turkic people.

    I know, yes? It's just a mystery....

    https://www.theapricity.com/forum/sh...ernar-Massalim

    ...why anyone would think...

    https://www.theapricity.com/forum/sh...iors-in-Europe

...that we have such strong connections...

    https://www.theapricity.com/forum/sh...h%E1cs-Hungary

    ...with other Turkic peoples?

Perhaps it will forever be unknown.

He not trolling, some peoples believes in a baseless Hungarian-Turkic connection between us. Anyway, the Turk is the Greek name for the Hungarians in the 8-12th century. Means nothing, especially not ethnic relation. Presumably a heritage of an old Magyar-Turkic political relation, same tribal confederation or something.
