"Free, do you call yourself? Then I would hear your ruling thought, and not merely that you have escaped from a yoke. Are you one of those who had the right to escape from a yoke? Many a one has cast away his last worth when he has cast away his servitude. Free from what? What does that matter to Zarathustra! But your fiery eyes should tell me: free for what?" - Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Hey! I thought you just said April Fool's wasn't until next month!

Every chat room in existence is monitered, has been monitered, and will be monitered be it by private entities or by quasi-private industries, everything anyone has ever done online is saved right down to what you backspaced. To think otherwise is what's truly silly.
"Do you think the government's monitoring what we're saying right now?"
Typical empty vessel news reader. Gee, brainiac, you think the government watches the news so they know what's being said about them?
Same old story with the dinosaur media being so late as to be utterly irrelevant. This began at least a year ago and it's not nearly as alarming as the dopes at CTV make it out to be.
Pic related it's the news reader before her face lift:

I think that people consistently overestimate the ability of organizations to actively collect and analyze web data. Too much content is uploaded every second, and at an increasing rate, for it to be monitored the way people think of phone taps being done. However, it's definitely true that just about everything is archived somewhere and is searcheable by anyone with the proper knowledge and motivation.

They're obviously re-hashing old stories which is common for any mainstream news outlet. A year ago they began a state-sponsored propaganda campaign training government workers to combat 'mis-information' about political issues on chatrooms and message boards. I can only guess what that 'mis-information' is as they are, understandably, rather vague about what their definition of mis-information is. Creating tensions? Fear mongering? Some sort of visual deterrent against would-be 'terrorists' (see DHS report for their definition of what a terrorist is)? I don't know.
What responsible people should be asking is now that the precedent has been set a year ago, what is this new initiative they are building upon the old? What has the old initiative not accomplished for them that the new one will? Hillary Clinton has sworn to dump more money in what appears to be an exact replica of theCanadian GovernmentHarper Government. Not new in the U.S either that's for damn sure.
Speculations?

I think it's reasonable to assume that, although there is as yet no evidence, they are--by proxy or directly--reiterating the government's official line on any given issue, but without telling people for whom they work.
That's my baseline speculation as to what's going on.

Well I've deleted my "Assassinate Stephen Harper" Facebook group.
You should watch what you say online, leave the political talk at Tim Hortons.
