What should be done with the chronic underclass?.

Similar too, but different from, the recent discussions on Eugenics.



By 'chronic' I mean 3rd generation or 2nd generation of child-having age.

By 'underclass' I mean living on government benefits for all or a sizable portion of life, usually combined with one or more of the following: criminal record, tendency towards violence, addiction to hard or prescription drugs


1. Nothing. Live and let live, or live and let die as the case may be. Let nature decide.


2. The state should take custody of the children and place them in foster homes or state-run facilities.


3. Give them lots of money and benefits.


4. Mandatory sterilization.


5. Voluntary sterilization, in return for some sort of payment or eligibility for benefits.


6. Resettle somewhere else. For example, see the recent thread on British children sent to Australia.


7. Encourage religious institutions to adopt unwanted children. For example, the 'Shaker' communities in the US ~1850-1950, or Catholic orphanages.



Currently, the US mainly does #3, #2 as well to a lesser degree.

90% of Europeans have been underclass until the industrializations, reformations and societal changes took place. The strength of our society is measured by how well the underclass is given the opportunity to leave it thanks to education and wellfare.

Sounds like the bulk of the armies of the pre and post Industrial armies of Europe.

Nothing beats a good war in regards to population control.

Neither of them - A national service composed of time serving in the military and put to work repairing roads and schools would be better. This would save money as well as getting them to work.
