We still use phrases such as "over 35" to describe someone past their youth, or over the hill. That may have applied back in the 1970's when people smoked like chimneys, but does it really today? Regardless of the average lifespan, I don't really consider the mid life years to be reached until someone is well into their 40s.
Years ago, people could have been pretty haggard and tuckered out by 35, because they started working so young and getting married so young. But today people are not as old. I will turn 40 next year and well I think I am a youngish-middle aged person. I have more energy now than I did in my 20s, because I was morbidly obese back then. I tend to think of terms of lifestyle vs age of the person. One thing I do notice is that high school kids look so old today. The David Hogg guy for example, he looks almost as old as I do. Why do high school kids look 35 now?
20 years ago when I was that age, we all looked like baby faced kids. That's one thing that strikes me. People either look really old for their age or very young. What do Y'all think?
