Average for an individual, yeah. Those numbers given earlier were median income for a household.

According to this 2016 article: https://www.usatoday.com/story/money...come/93002252/

"The median household income in 2014 was $53,719, which means that half of American households make less than this amount"

and 44.8% of households make under $30,000... 26% make under $16,000.

And from Wikipedia:
According to the U.S Census Bureau "The per capita income for the overall population in 2008 was $26,964; for non-Hispanic Whites, it was $31,313; for Blacks, it was $18,406; for Asians, it was $30,292; and for Hispanics, it was $15,674." (keep in mind these numbers include the baby-boomers, who obviously make more money than subsequent generations)
