    Far too difficult to answer.

I can't really put Yevgeniy Onyegin in the same category as War and Peace. They're such different things.

I'm far more drawn to the Russian short story myself, for which Chekhov deserves special mention for humour and treatment of personal interactions, and Turgenyev for his wonderful descriptions of nature. As such, I like particular episodes in the novels best, like all the stuff about Levin working on his estate in Anna Karenina, or the more autobiographical bits in Tolstoy's works in general.

I'll say War and Peace. I haven't read it since I was about eighteen, but I still remember being quite 'blown away' it. The particulars are rather hazy in my mind now, so I'll have to reread it some time soon, and remind myself why exactly I was so impressed.

I'll blaspheme too, and say that I thought Master and Margarita is best on stage.

Actually, I like skazki (folk tales) best of all, when it comes to reading in Russian.

"Brothers Karamazov" is exceptional novel and Dostoevsky's best while in the same time being his last one. Like all that matters in the life, this novel deals with questions of moral, love, betrayal, murder (it even has "who did it" part) etc. In this novel, like in so many other Dostoevsky's novels, main light motif is "everything has a price". For me this is the main truth of life, every decision we make in our lives has a price and some underlined consequences which we might not be able to see clearly at the time and foolishly assume otherwise. This is quite common with young people. And yet, Dostoevsky didn't despise naivety, more like he seen it as proof of uncorrupted soul. The most famous part of novel, however, is chapter named "The Great Inquisitor". The true visionary insight of "humanist" leaders of today (foresight of newspeak phenomenon in 19th century) and the terror for the greater good.

The other novel that I like is Bulgakov's "Master and Margarita". From the cover of the novel: "Devil comes to communist Moscow to see whether he can do any good!". This line sold me the book immediately.

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, and Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin are the ones I really liked. I didn't read all of them ( I mean the entire list) though
