What are some good ways to get back in touch to people I went to high school with?

I graduated in May of 2016, and haven't seen most of them since then.

What are some good ways to get back in touch with them?

Good messages to send?

Good excuses to contact them?

TBH I would NEVER recommend doing this, as the outcome may not be what you expect (not good) and they may respond negatively or not at all, proving that they either never were your friends (or even acquaintances) or don't feel as strongly about you as you did about them. I did this multiple times 4-5 years after High School and I sent a message, said hi in person, or made a phone call that was very nice and caring/interested and yep...nothing ever came of it and I never got back in touch. Out of 10 or so high school people I tried to get back in touch with, only 1 of them responded with interest or enthusiasm. And one of them contacted me 3 years later to set up an outing which seemed to be out of convenience ugh most of them ghosted me or ignored me or even treated me poorly in public and excluded me. Tbh I felt even worse after trying to reach out it was really hard for me I was literally crying after sometimes. Don't put yourself through this unless you really want to know your social standing with them and don't care. Maybe other people have had more success than me, if so please share. I was not pushy or anything though.

Maybe there are better ways to message them or contact them and reconnect successfully that I haven't tried, It's possible. Maybe I've just had truly bad luck with people. Some of these people I knew for years and did the world for, they might never know someone as fun and loyal as me ever again but it is their loss.
