    Default Metric or Imperial?

OK, which of the systems do you prefer, metric or imperial. And for the purpose of the survey also what is your age range?
The reason I'm asking this is because metric is quite recent in the UK there is perceived to be a marked division between generations who grew up with it and those who didn't.

[Note: Votes are private, so nobody can see your age . I did want to see who voted what but thought people might object to their age being shown]

***Poll is open to anybody but the age part probably applies more to the UK and Canada.***

Imperial, of course. I'm an American. What could be more un-American than the metric system? Unless you're buying 2-liter bottles of soda, that is.

Are they really switching to the metric in the UK? That's kinda lame. Inches sound much better than centimeters, it takes less time to figure out. Liters are too small. And Kilograms are too heavy.

    Half-heartedly yes.

Measurements are in centimetres, metres and millimetres but for things like roads its still miles and miles-per-hour four speed.
Liquids are measured in litres, millilitres and pints.

So really its a mixture of the two systems at the moment.

    Of course, metric.
    It's simple.

I prefer metric because I find it easier to work with, but I am pretty adept with both.

Canada uses metric, but since I used to work in tourism and dealt with Americans frequently, I learned imperial.

Americans do not use the Imperial system of measure.
I prefer the USA system of measurement to that of the Imperial system of measurement, but I feel metric is superior.

I wouldn't mind if we as Americans switched to metric for various reasons, including simplicity of measure.

Simplicity. The Metric system has only 7 basic measures, plus a substantial number of measures using various combinations of these base measures. The imperial system (prior to the UK converting to metric) and the USA system have over 300 different measures (see http://lamar.colostate.edu/~hillger/traditional.htm), of which many are ambiguous. For example, there are eight different definitions of ton (including the 'short ton' and the 'long ton'), all of which differ in weight. There are also eight different definitions of barrel, five different definitions of bushel, three different definitions of mile (international, nautical, and US Survey). The USA gallon is smaller than the Imperial gallon, and all measures which are multiples or subdivisions of the gallon (e.g. pint, quart) likewise are inconsistent between the USA and the UK. Not only are the USA and UK pints different in size, but there are also differences between 'dry pints' and 'liquid pints'.

Having being born in 1958 i was taught Imperial and Metric at school, which was handy when i started work in my profession.
In the UK, steel pipe and the pipe fittings are in Imperial, whereas copper pipe and the fittings are in Metric.
My personal favorite of measurement is Imperial.
Have you noticed that if you rearrange the letters in ‘illegal immigrants’, and add just a few more letters, it spells, ‘Go home you free-loading, benefit-grabbing, resource-sucking, baby-making, non-English-speaking ********* and take those other hairy-faced, sandal-wearing, bomb-making, camel-riding, goat-f*****g raghead c***s with you.?
