In the early 4th century BC, the Achaemenid (Persian) King decided to end the Corinthian War in mainland Greece, by lending decisive support to the Spartans. The Persians had played the mainland Greeks against each other for years. In 387 BC, the Achaemenid king dictated a peace treaty (signed in Susa), which ended this war in mainland Greece. This treaty is known as the Peace of Antalcidas or the King's Peace (as the treaty was guaranteed by the Achaemenid king).
As a result of the treaty, the Persians regained control over Ionia and Cyprus, and the Beoetian, Argosian and Corinthian leagues were dissolved.
These events took place just a few decades before the rise of Philip II. They were basically a de jure continuation of de facto Achaemenid political control over mainland Greece. In short, the treaty formally put Greece under Achaemenid suzerainty
