    Default Apulia (SE Italy).

At risk of offending our resident Italian posters.. this will be my last of these threads.

I was just struck by the difference between Apulia and Calabria.. with many of these being very Dinarid and a higher frequency of lighter hair and eyes.

If Hess sees this.. I think he could definitely fit in with these pictures.

I've an apulian uncle with red hair, green eyes and freckless.
I'ts a quite common feature in the town of Manfredonia (founded and populated by Manfred Von Hohenstaufen), but also in Bari.

I would dare to say that Puglia is the """less""" med region of southern Italy.

You're probably right.. I am seeing more Dinarids than Meds, too.

These people don't strike me as stereotypically Italian because they lack a strong med component. I think every person in that set could easily be Southern French. Some of them could pass as Austrians as well. They, I think, also have what I call a Pan-Balkan look. That is, they can more or less pass as members of any Balkan country.

Some of the really Dinarid ones remind me of Albanians.

Others could be French or Austrian:

Apulia is one of the most invaded, and specially colonized region of all the Italy.

    -Apulii, Calabri e Messapii (italic)
-Dori people from Greece ("Magna Grecia")
    -a massive roman colonization
    -byzathines (greeks)
    -normanns
    -svevian in the Middle Age

I wonder what accounts for so many Dinarics. Was there any non-Greek Balkan influence?

If Agrippa reads this, I'm curious how he'd classify some of these and where he thinks they'd fit.. I'm also wondering if genetic studies would turn up more Northern European influences in Apulia than surrounding areas, or if it's just by coincidence so many of them are this light.
