Default How common is dark hair among Germans?

I always assume Germans are either blond, dark-blond, or really light brown in terms of hair color, but I've met a couple of people from Germany in the past year who were all rather brown to dark brown in terms of hair color. Could such people be descendant form Austrians or northern Italians?

Dark hair/non-blond hair is predominant among the Germans, by complexion they're just Central-Europeans, not Northern-Europeans.

Yea. To find, in Germany/Austria, a single region with the same blondism rate of Finland/Estonia it's unprobable or very rare.

Besides we should define "dark". What do we mean by "dark" ? (exactly).

What´s dark hair for you ?
If you consider Black Hair as dark then i wouldn´t asociate it with Germanics.

I think dark hair, as in Asian or Negro dark hair (completely Black) is pretty rare.

However, I think dark brown hair is not that uncommon, especially in South Bavaria and Saarland

Ze Germans vary greatly in the physical appearance. No?

Haven't payed much attention to it, but if I recall correctly, I'd say that most Germans I've encountered had dark blonde to light brown hair.

And I have to agree with Hess. Dark hair in Saarland is the rule.

Here you got photo's with some friends and colleagues. The last four are Saarländer:

Most Germans are dark blonde or brown haired. Black hair is unlikely. The more northern you get the higher the share of light blondes.

Northern Germans like Schleswig-Holsteinians have the same blondism rate as Danes and other Scandinavians. But that doesn't count for the entire country, ofc.

That's not fully true. The areas above Hamburg are culturally and ethnically more than just a bit similar to Scandinavians. But most Germans are Central-Eeuropeans, that's correct. Don't underestimate the Northern-European element in Schleswig-Holstein and in parts of northern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
