In 2016, Apricity crashed badly, and that's probably what the OP question is about. It was no small joking matter, and it certainly wasn't over quickly; on the contrary, it had disastrous consequences to the Forum.

For a number of members, tens of thousands of posts simply disappeared, while other members simply ceased to exist. I remember one member (Stella) who had accumulated between 30,000 and 40,000 posts to her name, not only did all of her posts vanish, but she herself simply disappeared from the Forum. She never returned, neither do I see any signs of her in any modified versions.

In addition to lots of threads and posts being deleted, many accounts were deleted as well and we had to create new ones (I was one of those whose original account was deleted). When the crash happened, this website was down for close to a month IIRC.
