A tribalist (for the purpose of this debate) is someone who always takes his own people/country's side, even if they were in the wrong. Would not admit to its mistakes.

A realist makes a more honest assessment of the world around him, and would not hesitate to admit if his group has erred.

Realist, not many things are above honesty and justice. Besides, in my country the leadership is traditionally retarded, so I guess it'd be complicated to be a tribalist.

Realist, tribalist only in an idealized and healthily romanticized sense and still based on realism in solid part. I descend from peoples who've been at war with each other, that makes me more realistic. But primarily if it's about analyzing policies, events etc. else they have to be analyzed realistically to learn anything from them, and it's quite funny watching people who are heavily tribalist converse, but it's good if you're in the mood for trolling. Of course I have my tribal loyalties as well, but unlike most people my ultimate loyalty is to my ideals first and that is strive for embetterment.

Wow, pretty thought provoking thread. I would think the first stage in selecting an option would be to define what makes an error. I would choose tribalist, although i don't support my "tribe" in all things. In fact, most of the time i think they deserve what they get. Not necessarily as a punishment for what they have done against others, but for the stupid ways that they decide their own future, and the stupid culture that they've immersed themselves in.

However, tribalism managed in the right way for eg. some Jews, is actually a superior form of cultural management than the individualist method. I think that jews for example, who abandon the tribal elements of their group actually fall behind in prosperity and intellect. They become just one of the crowd so to speak and lose certain advantages.

Tribalism here among bosnians on in this forum and some other balkanics, is proving itself to be totally dysfunctional and it has been a completely eye-opening experience, and witnessing how debased some of these individuals really are is shocking to say the least. I mean, i've met many sudanese imports who are nowhere near as tribal as some of these bosnians and serbs.

So to sum up, tribalism in the right way > realistic individualism.
But realism > unorganised tribalism

When among my people I'm a realist and very critical of "my tribe" but when confronted by a hostile element I'm a tribalist no matter how flawed that tribe is ... as they say - choose a side and it's truth will become your truth

Realist is a bit of a biased term eh? I'm guessing most tribalist imagine themselves to be realistic.
