Volvo which is owned now by China is no longer producing regular gasoline vehicles. Ford has said they are no longer going to make cars and transition to Crossovers(which are all likely to be hybrids). Lots of changes happening the car industry here in the USA. I drive a hybrid and would never go back to a regular gasoline car. Emission standards in the USA make it difficult to buy diesel cars.

Wow, where do I start. The USA has a very innovative Anglo-Saxon economy that pushes innovation and free markets. We have the most billionaires and have a lot of entrepreneurs. We have the best Universities and our Adult College Education attainment is light years ahead of Germany. Opportunity in the USA is endless to the motivated and driven person. There are plenty of rags to riches stories here. Productivity mean little if you produce unreliable products no one wants like Diesel cars. Japanese products are overall much better than German or American products in quality.

We also do have Government subsidized Healthcare for the Poor,Middle-class, and Elderly. This idea that we do not have a social safety net is incorrect. It is difficult to compare a country like Germany to the USA; we have hundreds more million people. Japan is also technically more advanced than Germany especially in the Electronics(video games and semi-conductors) and Automobiles.

You live in the USA a big oil producing country coming with low gas prices, anywhere else where gad isnt cheap, the demand for cheap diesel is at a alltime high.

I think US is rather a Celtic-Germanic ethnicity.
An ethnicity that was very influenced by Irish Kelts and English Kelts - think mostly people of Keltic ethnicity migrated from England and Ireland, to the US.
Scottish Kelts had also a big role in the formation of the US ethnicity.
This is why US is so much into innovation and values so much the freedom.
If you look at the countries of the Nordic Council, the most innovative one and with most freedom is Finland, which are not a Germanic ethnicity.

We do not like government doing things for us. We also do not like high taxes and th government getting in the way with regulations. We are not like France or Germany. Labor unions here are rather weak and insignificant. If we had yellow vest protester here hitting the police they would be shot to death. We are more law and order driven.

And this is why America has so much more poverty than much of Western Europe. They used to have a middle class in the 1950s and 1960s. Now they don't have one and see where that has taken them: the average yank is around 150K to 200K in debt. Add mortgages and healthcare debt and you can triple that. That's just their personal debt. American industry is so "innovative" that they have to rely on Indians and Chinese to do the work for them because they couldn't get the staff if they wanted to (people can no longer obtain a decent enough education for those jobs) and their entire industrial base is now in China. A lot can be said about Germany but I know where Germany's industrial base is: barely 40 kilometres from the Dutch border.

We have California which is the counter balance to the industrial Midwest. Silicone valley is very innovative and important to our diverse economy. The Auto industry here has been shrinking over the years as we have diversified away from industrial production and IT jobs took their place.
