Edgy New "Don't Be That Guy" Anti-Rape Campaign Launched in Ottawa

Those are some of the messages scrawled across posters for a new anti-rape campaign being launched in Ottawa, Canada under the slogan "Don't Be That Guy." The campaign is designed to be a shift away from the "No means no" campaign, which puts the onus on the woman to say no.

This campaign recognizes the significant role that alcohol plays in sexual assault and aims to have young men act responsibly. According to background information on the campaign from Crime Prevention Ottawa:

For years we've been telling young women that it's up to them to avoid sexual assault. This campaign breaks the mold by speaking directly to young men. The images are intentionally graphic to emphasize the bottom line, which is that sex without consent is sexual assault. And being drunk is no excuse for committing a violent crime.
According to organizers, the message of the campaign is clear:

* Don't be that guy who doesn't take responsibility.
* Don't be that guy who doesn't make sure his partner is consenting.
* Don't be that guy who sexually assaults a young woman too drunk to consent to sex.
* Don't be that guy who uses alcohol as a tool to sexually assault.
* Don't be that guy who believes it is not rape.

These posters will be placed in men's washrooms at bars and in a variety of other places that young people go.

bear to disagree about the "back in the days" bit, but agree about the depraved society where girls dress up like ho´s and get hammered every weekend while "clubbing" (an activity that I find particulary disgusting, this clubbing thing that seems to be so popular along with the Spanish botellon, which I find equally embarrassing ), playing to seduce fucktard guys while being completely irresponsible about the nature of their bodies. not feminism , but the commercialization and transformation of society, along with the commercial manipulation of sexuality, which was liberalized during the sexual revolution. The problem is not the sexual revolution itself, but the way sex was transformed, not by the revolution, but by neoliberalism, in the biggest obsession ofthe western civilization. It is everywhere. In every bus stop, in every banner,in everyl little corner there are sexually suggestive advertising.

People grow up surrounded of sexual themed images, and not precisely the kind of sex that the sexual revolution demanded (where women have the choice to actually have it, and not being just in control of their men), all the contrary, its a rather commercialized version of sex where is something people must consume in the same way you consume all the other stuff. Just like the Che Guevara T-Shirts made by indionesian 5 year olds in textile factories where semi-slave labour is still used in order to keep the profits high for the big capital.

Stupid campaign. People of both genders in the bar/club/party scene go out drinking with the intention of getting wasted and ending up in bed with someone. Campaigns like this only feed a certain modern mentality that one can act like a slut while pretending not to be one.

The 60s and especially 70s were pretty liberal days sexually, from what some friends who were in their 20s and 30s at the time tell me. Up until the mid 80s, with Reagan & the Republicans, rise of the religious right combined with feminism, plus AIDS and all that put an end to it.

Prior to that, from what I have read, there was a pretty degenerate scene in big cities, especially port cities, plus the south or parts of it. This was basically socially isolated from the main part of the population, and also not popularized through the media.

Now we have this degeneracy prevalent in a large section of society, thanks to influence of the media presenting this as a normal/desirable lifestyle and also the creation of the attitude that once someone turns 18 they can run wild and ignore all advice of parents.
