Why is middle-aged considered something bad?

When does middle age officially start? IMO, around 45 for men and around 35 for women.

I don't have either of those things. I think society is obsessed with youth and youth culture. The truth is, most young people are so boring. It used to be the opposite. We valued older people more. They are supposed to be wiser and more interesting.

Young people in the west don't have the same values they used to back in the day; the future is pretty terrifying.

If someone hasn't accomplished a whole lot by the time they are 40, whatever 'wisdom' they might have probably doesn't hold a lot of weight for younger people.

Honestly, I don’t know. The phrase goes “youth is wasted on the young”, and I wholeheartedly agree.

I like listening to stories both older and younger people have to say. There’s always something to learn if you’re paying close attention.

Namecalling is not going to change the fact that you are 40 years old, still live at home, collect welfare and never have been self-supporting in your life. You start a thread wondering why young people don't respect those of your age. News flash, they do, when a person of your age is worth respecting.

30 is not middle aged. No one under 40 is middle aged. Period.

As one of the few members of TA who actually IS middle-aged, I appreciate your post
