I respect how they undermined theocracy. I would have liked to have seen them keep the Revolutionary Calendar, and not compromise with the Church. On the other hand, I do not care for how they changed the traditional French regional boundaries. I liked their celebration la Fete de L'etre Supreme. It is too bad they didn't go further. Instead they decided ultimately to cave in to the status quo due to propriety.
I also like the uniform pragmatism of the Napoleonic Code, but that is another matter.

For all the sentiment people have about revolutions in general, they are really just power changing hands that will likely go back to doing the exact same things they were before the revolution, under a different name and guise of course.

French Revolution.
# Kill the aristocracy.
# Live as paupers. Some Paupers live better than most.
# Get fed up of being poor and underfed.
# Support an aristocratic nobleman once or twice.
# Suffer greater levels of pauper ship.
# Thank Germanics for reinstating a developed system of parliament.

New France might've had a future if it hadn't've been for those filthy Parisians.

It's not all that great, but I think it takes an unfair amount of abuse on preservationist type boards. It's not like what it replaced was all that great either.

It did much to overthrow feudal backwardness and superstition and bring in modern economics and wealth. It was too extreme, but that came in part to royalist mismanagement and stupidity. It's a thoroughly mixed legacy in my opinion. Comte believed it was inevitable but the forces driving it should have given way to a more modernist, merit based aristocracy. I agree with him.
