So i've been building up my ancestry tree and looking at my DNA matches on this site recently
But this has come with a problem......family secrets , that maybe should have remained secret
My closest DNA match on ancestry is a guy I'd never heard of before, listed as my 1st-2nd cousin
Looking through our shared matches, I could see he was almost certainly related to my maternal grandfathers family, the Kelly's from Liverpool
I asked my Mum, if one of her cousins had this name. Nope she'd never heard of him.
This guy then messages me on ancestry DNA...telling me he looked nothing like his brothers and "Dad", and the ancestry DNA results had confirmed he had false paternity
He then told me his Mum had attended Liverpool Uni in the late 60s, just before he was born.
With this info, I asked my Mum, which of her paternal uncles was still living in Liverpool during that time period .
My granddad was one of 10 siblings ....It was Uncle "J" (won't say his real name..some of you snoopy bastards might start looking)
He was married and in his late 40s by this stage...seems as though he knocked up a 20 year old student girl
Anyway, Uncle "J" died young at 51, in the early 70s......suicide...threw himself off a cliff
Don't know what to tell this bloke now....I almost certainly know who his biological Dad was...but it's no fairy story (plus he still has a half brother and sister alive still)
I should have left sleeping dogs lie , I think
