U.K. Leader Boris Calls For Extradition of American Diplomat's Wife Who Killed A British Teen

The American diplomat's wife was driving down the wrong side of the road and killed a British teenage motorcylist, before fleeing the country.


Anne Sacoolas is wanted by the U.K. police over the death of motorcyclist Harry Dunn, 19, (pictured above) in Northamptonshire on the 27th of August.

She fled the country and returned to the U.S. and currently has diplomatic protection.

The grieving relatives of the teenage boy that she killed say they need her to face justice.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he will personally call President Trump to request her extradition to face charges in the U.K.

We keep with tradition and drive on the right side of the vehicle and left side of the road in the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, etc.

I think the French started the tradition of travelling and driving on the opposite side of the road (left side of the car and right side of the road)... for diplomatic reasons.

Most people are right handed and weapons such as swords were traditionally used by the right hand as people passed each other on their horses on countryside lanes.

The English were always ready to draw their swords and use their right hands at enemies passing towards them in the opposite direction of the lane... and having the steering wheel on the right side of the vehicle and driving on the left side of the road stems from this old Medieval tradition of the directions people travelling on horseback would use when passing each other along the highways.

An American or Canadian said in the short video below that he found it a strange experience driving in the U.K., and he shows how he made the transition.



I don't know if that American diplomat's wife was using a car with the wheel on the left - or a car with a steering wheel on the right. Driving an American car with the wheel on the left side of the vehicle would be awkward on an LHD road.

The U.K. (like Ireland) still keeps its historic and ancient street layout.

A lot of roads here have traditional names, and are often narrow, bumpy, and winding... and aren't very suited to large and wide American cars on the narrow roads here. Smaller cars are more suitable and practical for getting around lots of sharp bends, narrow lanes, and limited parking spaces along the pavement kerbs (or 'curbs' as they're spelt in the U.S.,) as it's a small country but with a much larger population than Canada, Australia, etc. Also the pavements (or 'sidewalks' as pavements are called in the U.S.) are generally much narrower here than in the U.S.

People can easily get around the U.K. though without driving due to all the public transport. Also the American diplomat's wife could've hired a private taxi or a chauffeur if she felt uncomfortable or inexperienced with driving on the opposite side of the roads to countries such as France and the U.S.

Roadsigns in the UK are displayed in MPH (miles per hour) and I'm not sure if Americans also use the imperial system when driving.



I think she should face charges though for the death of that poor teenager she killed. Rest in peace.

Just imagine all the injuries and casualties she'd have caused if she was driving on the wrong side of the road in London where there's lots of traffic.
