On another forum, I was criticised for opening this thread. Just to clarify: I made this thread precisely as a riposte to those who claim that Austrians and other Central Europeans look half-way between Scandinavians and Southern Europeans, when in truth they are considerably closer to the former than the latter.

The Austrian look closer to the Swedish, both feature-wise and pigmentation-wise in these sets of photos.

What kind of freak is this?

Borreby with hints of Lappid? Anyway, as I already explained above in this thread, I made it principally because some forum members claim that Austrians and other Central Euros are phenotypically half-way between Scandinavians and Southern Euros, when in truth the ratio is more like 75/25.

Do Austrians have more Nordid elements than southern Germans/Bavarians?

    I doubt it.

Borreby with Lappid seems about right. I agree that most central euros are closer to northern than southern ones phenotypically.

Perhaps if the comparison had been with Croats instead of Portuguese it'd be 50/50. However, I still think that any overlap even with Central Europe dissipates somewhat from Serbia and Central Italy southwards (and eastwards).

Swedes. And, like most Central Euros, Austrians have a rather weak Med component.
Their non-Northern (read non-Nordid and non-CM) phenotypes are more often Dinaric or Alpine in general.
Between Sweden and Serbia would be more accurate for them. The French, on the other hand, are a better example of something, more or less, in the middle of Portugal and Sweden.
