    I agree that good food is much more expensive, I decided to buy better this week and added 30% to the bill that way,

    A couple of points;
    They must have a car can't see them walking anywhere. so scrap the car and use to extra money to buy nicer food, when I'm unemployed is the ONLY time I have enough time to cook properly! Pluss the walking would help

    Ditch the TV and sky subscription, that would help on the money?!!

    However in my world they simply wouldn't get any benefits, (except for the one in training) that would soon slim them down, last time I checked diabetes did not stop you working.

    This really makes me feel good and bad at the same time.

    Good because I am not as grossly overweight as them. I don't drive, so I walk everywhere (even just to buy one cd).

    I am, however, quite overweight, and it really reminds me just how lazy I am.... But at least I DO things with my life and realize I DON'T want to be that way!

    It's almost as if they have given up already.

    I don't believe they have given up, they've chosen this lifestyle.

    I don't understand how someone would want to live that way.

    Sounds like a fucking brain disease to me.

    Why is it that in the West it is the poorest who are the fattest? In the rest of the world, and throughout most of history until recently, the poor were usually undernourished & starving. It's ridiculous that "poor people" have cars & TVs with satellite or cable subscriptions.

    Yes it is totally absurd that it is now the poor who are fat, I suppose this can be blamed on the mass production of cheap staple food, poor education, and a welfare state that supports them.

    The definition of poor has also changed, I remember when it was set as not owning a tv. my family where in that definition but by choice! we were never "poor". I run a car it's a luxury, I don't have a tv, don't smoke and rarely drink so I figure I have to have some fun!

    Well, it is the rich people who can afford gym subscriptions, health & diet food, varied diet, etc. Being poor is not exactly a healthy lifestyle. Poor people also get less exercise because they can't readily go to places as other people do. Many of them also suffer from debilitating depression. If you don't love your life you are less likely to do anything positive.

    That little paragraph does read like a list of excuses though, who needs a gym subscription, or diet food? I'll agree with the second half, that is why I waste so much money on a car.

    It has been said that is the US at least, the government subsidizes the production of foods that are bad for us. All that cheap High Fructose Corn Syrup, made possible by the official encouragement of corn(maize) production & the tariffs on cane sugar. Most of the junk food in the US contains maize or soy, soybeans being another favorite of the USDA. Healthy foods are not subsidized & suffer from competition from cheap junk food. I can say just from my onw observation that kids are much more likely to be fat or even obese today then 30-years ago & it isn't because of less physical activity. All that time surfing the net or playing video games is time that was spent watching TV in the 70s. And kids are getting fatter at earlier ages. Coincidently HFCS started becoming an important part of the American diet in the early 80s.
