Askra's "Folk Costumes of Sardinia" thread inspired me to start a thread dedicated to traditional clothing in Sicily. This is the original thread on Sardinian costumes: http://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26894
I've gone through many photographs online and have come to a few conclusions:
--Sardinia is extremely lucky to have preserved its costume tradition, with its many regional variations.
--Sicilians have not done half as good as Sardinians in terms of preserving their traditional dress.
--Most of my sources are old photographs of people in traditional dress or Drawings/Paintings.
--When looking up Sicilian folk performing groups and folk festivals, I have realized that either
(1) their costumes are inspired by the Sicilian tradition of "Carnevale" which is a separate tradition from how people actually dressed and so does not accurately portray Sicilian traditional dress or
(2) many times the costumes are too much influenced by Western folk dress traditions (in mainly a North Italian, French, Swiss, German, etc. direction rather than let's say an Iberian one).
Besides how the clothing style is designed, an example of the latter point is that I have seen entire folk groups which have 100% of the women with their hair uncovered (highly innaccurate to the Sicilian tradition) and with 100% of the men wearing a Coppola (a hat which has become a symbol of Sicily even though it was only introduced to Sicily in the early 1900's from the British tradition).
---Therefore I have only included a couple of folk performer photos which I feel are closer to authentic style dress, while still realizing that they are still not Very accurate.
