Default BBC orders staff to refer to 'English' riots to avoid offending Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish

BBC staff have been told to refer to 'English' instead of 'UK' riots to avoid upsetting other regions, it emerged today.

The move by the broadcaster came after it looked at feedback from viewers and to avoid offending audiences in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The violence has been confined to England, starting in London and then spreading to other major cities including Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool.

A BBC spokesman told The Telegraph: 'Our initial approach was guided by the story's impact for the UK as a whole - for example the UK Prime Minister returning from holiday and the decision to recall the UK Parliament.

'However, with the events confined to several cities and towns in England... we have listened to feedback from our audiences.'

This is the first thing I noticed, that the BBC were suddenly mentioning the E-word (England), actually acknowledging our existence when something bad is happening but when something good is happening we're "Britain"!
The BBC and Labour party hate England and this fact is well known. Yet we hear next to nothing about the attempted riots in Wales and Scotland which the police there managed to nip in the bud. Total hypocrisy.

If the riots were happening in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee. It would've been Scottish riots, not UK. We don't want our name dragged in the mud and to affect the tourism revenue. Same goes for our Welsh friends.

The point is that the BBC is deliberately saying England in a blatant attempt to portray it in a bad light whereas anything good that happens in England and England only is still referred to as "British" and being "good for Britain".
The BBC has a dislike of England and is purposefully trying to slur it.

I think using the words "youths" and "protesters" to describe immigrants and chavs is a far bigger slap in the face than any regional terms used.

Correct. I hear what you're saying too Graham, but fact of the matter is that anything good coming out of England is automatically "British" ... not so with negative things. It's a double standard.

    Same goes for Scotland.

Britain and England means pretty much the same thing to the BBC. Infact alot of people abroad can't tell the difference between England and Britain.

I was amazed the BBC knew the country existed.

Murray was waved along by British flags and named Scottish all the way, yet the riots are solely English as and when it occurs?

    BBC are true to form.

In both cases they are obscuring the identity of the rioters. In this case they present them all as English, while there where a significant portion of blacks involved.
