Future by Design is a documentary film by Academy Award nominated filmmaker William Gazecki, sharing the life and far-reaching vision of Jacque Fresco, a modern day Da Vinci. Peer to Einstein and Buckminster Fuller, Jacque is a self-taught futurist who describes himself most often as a generalist or multi-disciplinarian -- a student of many inter-related fields. He is a prolific inventor, having spent his entire life (he is now 90 years old) conceiving of and devising inventions on various scales which entail the use of innovative technology.

great ideas, amazing... however his economic knowledge is terribly lacking. Ever heard about the freeloader effect? the tragedy of commons? and eliminating scarcity? How???

I am more then willing to learn a few things from him because, frankly, capitalism (or socialism for that matter) offers no way out of crises. Particularly not out of real existential ones like the one we have today: more capitalism will not help us as it will only create more poor, more socialism will not help either.

Capitalism does not work fully with government intervention. However the way Fresco talks at the end, it appears he wants people void of culture, and religion, because these things mould us into whom we are. He doesn't want opinions.

He wants the advancement of human society, which is novel, but for germanic preservationists, and European preservationist this is also a threat to our lifestyles.

Capitalism does not work fully with government intervention.

It doesn't work, period, as it leaves behind most of the population. Most of all the poor, the ageing and the needy. Like yesterday when I saw this Dutch tv-program about the crisis and those working in home care had "the system of the market" introduced to them and saw their wages slashed by 25 percent. Yes you heard it: 25 percent. And people at the moment are a bit frightened of what ungodly things the introduction of the new national budget in September will bring.

However the way Fresco talks at the end, it appears he wants people void of culture, and religion, because these things mould us into whom we are. He doesn't want opinions.

Maybe it appears that way because he is an engineer. He looks at things from a technical point of view. It is however possible to retain our culture and since there could be a global society and prosperity for basically everyone the immigrants would go home and we would get peace and quiet. But I am quite sure that he does not seek to dismantle cultures and cultural heritage.

If so: the guy is in his 90s. He will be dead soon and our generation can further develop his ideas in the way we see fit. Ideas change with every generation.

Look at that from a more positive point-of-view. The guy is an engineer and not a sociologist - however "the advancement of human society" as a whole would work in our favour as we would get far less bloody immigrants coming our way.
