Chovet - Santa Fe
Founded by the frenchman Alberto Chovet in 1923, was “populated by Austro-Hungarian immigrants fleeing the Second World War and the European famine”.
Many came from the Dalmatian island of Hvar
Between 1924 and 1927 the most important Croatian settlements were created: they entered up to 7 thousand per year.
"In Argentina there are around 400,000 descendants of Croats and
about 46,000 are in the province of Santa Fe, which is second behind Buenos Aires," economist Joza Vrljicak, director of Studia Croatica, which has been published since 1960.
The former communal president of Chovet, Esteban “Chiche” Bogdanich Matievich, assured: “In Chovet and Mugueta is where more Croats live after Croatia, speaking in percentage”, he said.
