Livi, who did extensive pigmentation surveys in Italy, nationwide recorded an average of 8-9% fair hair - pale blond to light brown and light red. One caveat, he was a 19th century anthropologist who used mainly conscripts (presumably all male) as measurement subjects. The highest light hair frequencies were found in Northern Italy, about 12%.

Celts apparently were not all that blond or red haired, contrary to layman perceptions.
In any case, In Italy, Celtic settlement was pretty much confined to the Alpine regions and not nearly as enduring or dense as in places like Central-to-Southern France, Iberia, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Southern-to-Central England.

I've heard an oppinions that Celts were red-haired, big muscled gods.
And Germanics were not different - blonde, muscular giants.
Only Slavs were short, swarthy pseudo-mongoloids.
I like stereotypes .
BTW: Celts were most probably dark haired. After all, they don't disappeared and their descendants are singificant part of western populations. And they were not only associated with Keltic Nordic subtype, but rather Med/Atlanto-med/Atlanto-Nordid/Alpinid spectrum. And Germanics were not blonde gods. Really! ;D

average 8-9 % means 3-2 % in regions like sardinia, abruzzo, molise et cetera..the northern part of the country surely has a bit more of blondism but 12% ist still very poor indeed,so the real crowds,as I have seen with my eyes are for the most part not blondes gods of thunder and rain.
