Why is riding camels a "disadvantage"?

I have noticed that whenever west asians of non-Arabic ancestry try to separate themselves from Arabs and claiming that their country is not middle eastern in discussions, they use the "we dont ride camels in deserts" as an evidence of "not being Arabs"/"not being middle eastern"

Whats wrong with riding camels, to start with?

They're rich now only because of oil, but not all of them - in fact only those who were able to make deals without provoking wars got rich.

We'll see how many of them will remain wealthy once the large economies move away from oil.

I believe they will. Especially the emirates have started investing in many other sectors, like tourism, air transport, industry (in 3rd world but they are still the owners) etc

Dubai is the richest of the emirates (if i am not mistaken) and produces the least oil in the arabic peninsula

Because camels are slow paced compared to other transportation, they are noisy and don't always comply. But they do have their advantages, they can be used as food security if there is famine & it is indeed a better option that walking, just not the best option.
