Default How big is the difference between the French from the North and the South?

We know that the French from the north are more phenotypically and genetically closer to the Belgians, Dutch and British and those from the south to the Spanish, Portuguese and Italians, but how big is the phenotypic difference?

It is significant but not that big, the French in the north still have a more or less French look as this thread will show: https://www.theapricity.com/forum/sh...man-phenotypes

The North of France you could say is more or less a mixture of native southern-central French elements, British and German elements as well while the south has more proper Alpine types and a slightly higher proportion of Meds, still distinct from Spain and Italy however. Nordic phenotypes are generally probably twice as common in the north but still in the minority, the differences are not as big as in Italy where studies have shown blonde hair to be 10 times as common in the Alps as in Sicily.

It is very easy to distinguish the French from the North from the British, right?

As a group certainly, the British have somewhat fairer skin and more robust features while that characteristic sort of golden white shade seems to be more common in N France, someone like Macron being an example.

While I agree there are some differences, what you are saying is a real exaggeration - after all, Brits are far from being Danes and Northern French are far from being Portuguese or even Northern Italians.

The Northern French have a varied look in general, there is quite a bit of overlap with S England due to historical reasons, but searching through that thread from Normandy i did notice a difference in general with groups anyway while it is harder to notice a difference between say a southern English group and a Scottish group though the difference is still there.

In answer to the OP: there is some difference, but still Northern and Southern French look more alike than the former do to Scandinavians or the latter do to Greeks and Portuguese.

There are almost no differences because the Scots and English come from almost the same ethnic group, the only notable difference is that the English have a strong Germanic component from the Anglo-Saxons and the Scots remained almost as in the pre-Roman era.

Finding a difference between English and Scottish is like looking for a difference between Spanish and Portuguese

In summary Do the French have a unique aspect within their country that differs from their neighbors?

The differences are small but still there, Scots are slightly paler in general, a stronger Brunn, paleo atlantid element and even more robust in general, think the similarities are on par with the Spanish, Portuguese you are correct.
