Well, anyone exports, even protectionist states. The point of protectionism is to keep goods out, not keep them from going out.

What does disrupt the international system is when states don't play by the rules, and as China doesn't, a different set of rules must be applied to them.

Yup, the issue starts here, the international trade rules can be affected by political power, those without power to speak will likely lost the trial. The west has unchallenged privilege to influence the international law. There is a historical context(Democracy winning over soviets) of this privilege and Russia and China need to take historical context into consideration. Political sentiments are stil strong between the 2 parties. The west may call Russian or chinese government are disruptive to their economy, in the face of political power, the west has to consider a new adaptations to their rules. This may be what Russia want to do with China, to use us a political weight to voice their economic demands on the west. China will only try to find stability and space of sustainable international environment. Russia and the west are both traditional rival empires, but we do not share mentality with any of them issue like between themself, China would be ahead of Russia to adapt to the western economic rules. I guess, both Russia and China will deal with the west independently in economic relationship, but in politics, coperation will be likely only restricted to regional security, especially when the empire mentality of Russia will not yield to the west so easily. This is a very ideal prospect.

Well, if the US expects a say in the affairs of other nations, we should have a say in their affairs. The Yanks stick their nose where it doesn't belong.

Given that Britain is probably even a closer ally of the US than Canada his attitude makes much more sense than yours.

Ask me if I give a fuck which foreign countries the UK government is allied to.

Why should I be feeling patriotic about them?

Not so much a matter of being patriotic but just having a generally positive attitude toward a country which by any reasonable estimation is friendly. And that's something you don't particularly show at all.

All nations stick their nose into the business of others, that doesn't mean that americans have a vote on norwegian issues though. Which is what the englishmen said, "we should have a vote in the US elections"

This is something that has been a part of history as long as nation states have existed, powerful nations will always stick their nose in the business of others, its just the way it works.
