Argie, you're starting to confuse me. Let's start again.
I said
Then you saidI can't recall him saying that it was an Irish surname
Then I saidI think Combs is an Ulster Scotts surname.
Finally you saidArgie, you know where it ultimately originates. West of England without a doubt
I'm not doubting for a moment that your great aunt has done ancestral research and discovered Irish ancestry. With a surname like Combs, however, your ancestors would probably have been living in England before moving to Ireland.Regardless of where it originated from, my ancestors who held it where Irish. My great aint said so![]()

Yes, I'm sure it originated in England. Odoacer said it was pretty common in Northern Ireland. Though I think somone said it may have originated in Northern Wales too. My granny said she was going to pull out some really old family records soon, but she has shinles right now.I can't wait to see my great aunt's family tree too. When I get my hands on them, there'll be even more names to look up!

Too many T's (we'll ignore the 's' where there should be a 'ch'...)

Orange Order
He is showing you some Ulster-Scot/Scots-Irish culture.
Now I will get my mixed Irish Catholic and Scotch-Irish butt out of this thread before I start fighting with myself.
