I think that all Native reservations should have state provided basic amenities like clean running water and electricity. I also think that some Natives should venture beyond the rez, get jobs in the wider society, and send money back home to their families. They traditionally had gift economies. They must adapt, just like many tribes adopted animal husbandry after the White man came. I don't understand how people can have malicious attitudes towards Natives. I think the Bureau of Indian Affairs' bureaucratic stranglehold should be loosened. Many of the problems of the Natives today can be traced to the BIA.

Russel Means said that many Native languages did not have alphabets and the commitment to writing them down somehow cheapens the Native languages. This view is too extreme. The most widely spoken NA language in the US is Navajo (Dine Bazaad) with ~ 100,000+ speakers. Why do I bring this up ? Because I think the preservation of Native languages is important and this resistance to committing them to writing is foolish. Like Shaka Zulu once said, 'If a lion were given wings, he would be a fool not to use them.'

Some do venture out, look at the mohawk construction workers or the codetalkers during WWII. I am sure there are other examples. But i can understand it is hard for them to leave their tribe and community behind. But on the Rez there is little they can do, weak infrastrucuture, no industry or technologial areas. But that would also mean they have to open up themselves a bit,i can inagine natives being very isolationist and against new ideas or mindsets.

That's basically just attempting a communist revolution by any means necessary. But Poland at least has the benefit of history to know how that turns out! You guys should call it what it is, so the people know: Communism.
