Short answer: sort of, partially, influenced, whatever...but by no means fully or completely.

Scotland is Anglo-Celtic (the Anglo part accounting for the south east of Scotland as the economic center of the country, populated by Anglic peoples)...infact, all the British Isles are Anglo-Celtic.

Speaking mostly english makes the Scots germanic by culture .

Genetically they are a mix of celts and norse ,
so the same kind of mix than England ,
and they are genetically lest celt than Irish and Welsh .

According to one Scots Nationalist I was arguing with the other day:

    "
Anglo-Saxons? You talk about my ignorance when you don't even understand what you're saying. Both the Angles and the Saxons were Germanic tribes. So by your logic in order to be English you must have German descendants."

    The term is redundant.
Btw, he went on to say:

"Nationality is NOT something you're born with, it is the social & cultural environment in which you are raised & to which you identify. Now do us all a favour, move to Germany & join your distant neo-nazi cousins."

You can't argue with retards, although it is fun to do so.

Why is every Germanic group necessarily lumped under the umbrella term Anglo? Doing so fails to account for the Jutes, Saxons, Norse, Danes, and the Normans who were also settlers that mixed in with the natives at the time.

I dunno...just seems to me I'd rather see all the people's whose culture/mores contributed to what we now know to be the British Isles given more recognition

Well, considering the Normans and Norse were slowly absorbed into the English population (composed of Jutes, Saxons and Angles), it's more-or-less fine to 'lump' them under our pretty umbrella term.

On the scale of most Germanic to most Celtic:

    English
    Scottish
    Irish

I don't know where the Welsh would fit in.
The Welsh would fit in third place ahead of the Irish. There's a difference in Wales comparable to the Highland/Lowland divide in Scotland, as well

Exactly. But overall, I consider them Celtic.

True, and i think it's a fair point to say that modern boundaries aren't a great way to divide it really as well. I mean for example say the order of Germanic-Celtic is:

    English
    Scottish
    Welsh
    Irish

Even so, there are probably parts of Ireland that are more Germanic than parts of Wales, parts of Wales that are more Germanic than parts of Scotland, and parts of Scotland that are more Germanic than parts of England. And of course it works the other way too. 'Tis very confusing.

I would say the Scots are Celto-Germanic like the English, Welsh and Irish. Of course there is a continuum within that classification. Although like it was mentioned earlier Scotland has effectively it's own form of the English language. In fact i've heard it's more akin to Old English than Modern English is.
