Seems reasonable to assume that Iran shall not be let to continue on the course envisioned by its current leaders. One way or another.

I don't think that there is a war coming. Iran is a much stronger power than Afghanistan or Irak! This could lead to a long and bloody war like the old conventional wars with panzers and infantry.I can't believe that the USA or Israel are ready for that. They could see that they can't pacify Afghanistan with the greatest of efforts.
I pray for no war.

The goal wouldn't be to "pacify" but to destroy the Iranian government and infrastructure, and to get rid of all their nuclear facilities and scientists. Whatever comes after- be it religious violence and mass civilian deaths- may, in the eyes of the American, British and Israeli leadership, be a much better option than a potentially nuclear Iran. But in reality though they may say "the goal is peace" that would only be a small, insignificant goal after the major goals have been accomplished.I can't believe that the USA or Israel are ready for that. I don't think Obama would do it. But I'm worried that another president, especially one of the Neo-Cons, may come to power and be talked into going to war for Israeli interests.
It's all a numbers game. America has well over a million troops so it shouldn't be much of a problem especially considering we're beginning to pull out troops from other countries.

Sorry patriotards...iran is NOT iraq and they wont go down quite as easily as they did.
You better guard that strait of hormuz with all those aircraft carriers you got because if iran closes the strait we are all fucked.
Oh...you might want to watch out for those surface to air missles they have just sitting there....you are going to see some major aircraft losses...much more then all these wars we have fought combined.
You are not going to see that overwhelming air supremacy you saw in iraq and afganistan.

But Iran has modern military technology and great manpower. They could launch tons of missiles to Israel and it isn't far away. And think about the costs: USA has grave money problems and they needed to cut outputs for their missions in Afghanistan, Iraq or Libya. How do they want to finance war against an incomparably stronger and larger country?

Iran will not go down easily. The Iranians have Hezbollah, Hamas, Bader Brigades and the Mahadi Army as proxies. All of these organizations have no love for the United States and it's allies. So it could launch them at any given time. The Mahadi Army is well known to have attacked U.S forces in Iraq. Hamas although a Sunni organization, is very much strongly tied to Iran for training and economic gain. An attack of Iran might create a revival of Pan-Islamic movement. The 1979 revolution in Iran, after the Shah was deposed began the shedding of secular nationalist movements in most of the Middle East and North African regions. The conditions in all and all would favor an Iranian victory. The Americans could not subdue Afghanistan, nor the areas of the Syrian Desert of Iraq relatively inhabited by primitive Bedouin tribesmen they certainly can't defeat Iran and eventually they lose their status as a world power. Iran is a regional power in the Middle East and thus no joke.
