Default Why is youth considered the optimum for success?

Elvis Presley died at 42 years old. He died young but he was already considered washed up at that time and less appealing because of his age factor than he did when he was a 22 year old man. If he had of not become a Rock Star until say- around that age of 35, would he have mattered less in terms of his ability? Why is youth factor the model of success . Is society youth obsessed? If so, why? Most youth are boring. The ideal of anyone is to inspire others at any age because they don't have to fit their typical surroundings. If someone is in their 20s why should we applaud them more?

Can I not wear loafers and a upturned collars in my 40s and still be relevant?
