Default Prince Charles's elite teachers will bring back Chaucer and the Crusades

The course is part of The Prince’s Teaching Institute, a charity established by Prince Charles to protect traditional subjects from the rise of “trendy” teaching which puts more focus on “skills” than knowledge.

Teachers on the programme, which starts next year, will focus on areas of the school curriculum that have fallen out of fashion, such as Geoffrey Chaucer, in English, and the Crusades in history.

Adrian Barlow, the recently retired Cambridge International Examinations director who was instrumental in the development of the masters programme, said: “In English, for instance, there is a real shortage of teachers who are willing and confident to teach Chaucer or the Augustan poets.

“In history, there are major areas of study – the Crusades, for example – that have strong resonances for today but suffer because of the dominating influence of the 20th century on the curriculum.”

    Good!

Very sad. A good knowledge of Middle English goes a long way to improving your Modern English vocabulary and understanding both French and Germanic languages better.

    and the Crusades in history.
Guess why they no longer teach that?...

In English, for instance, there is a real shortage of teachers who are willing and confident to teach Chaucer or the Augustan poets.
Probably because they either don't understand it all themselves or are too scared of trying to get kids to understand the archaic words.

At least Prince Charles is doing something good at last. up

Yes. Sadly it is true. Not wanting to make the Muslims upset is almost certainly the reason why.

And they tell us Prince Charlie wouldn't make a good King for us.

I was greatly distressed by my daughter being taught about her local history.
It seems a Jamaican called Princess Campbell is more worthy of being taught to Bristolians than Elizabeth Blackwell.

Thankfully parent-teacher reports are this week. I am gonna make the teachers squirm.
