Most European countries seem to have double their population now,but 3rd world like China and Iran went much higher.

    Persia 7,000,000
    Iran 75,330,000

Qing Dynasty 300,000,000 (larger territory than China today)
    China 1,339,724,852
I'm struck by Russia's huge size compared to the other great powers, and the rather low population of Mexico compared to today. These population pressures drive immigration patterns at least as much as any alleged disloyal politicians.

I think that about Latvia is happened both for soviet deportation/russification/"genocide" and for mass emigration.

Russia back then had Ukraine,Belarus,Poland,Finland,"Rep.Moldova",Central Asian states etc. Still they would have had much much more ethnic Russians today if not for World War 1,the Bolshevik Revolution and World War 2, same goes for all Europeans, the two World wars really fked us up as a group.

About Italy, a recent demographic study has shown that without mass emigration (italian diaspora), WWI and WWII, the population would be about 170,000,000 (!).
