The funny thing is that, I do have 1 colleague from work looking like him but he's like half european half iranian, and more caucasoid looking(robust iranid without that much turanid in the eyes) than OP so go figure.

I see what you mean by "Turanid". It's quite obvious but Robust Iranid tend to look a bit different, don't they ?
This Turanid "vibe" couldn't be explained by some Native Amerindian admixture ?

There's no big difference between mongoloid types. Half asian mixes will always look intermediate, no matter what the mongoloid type was. Unless the mongoloid type was a fully unreduced caucasian-emulating type. Which is hard to find nowadays among Eastern Eurasians unfortunately..
