Umbanda emerged around 1910, as a "modernization" of beliefs and traditions that existed before it. With a very christian basis, they embrace concepts from african and native beliefs, to vedo-buddhism and even chinese taoism. Possibly with time and more contact with other traditions they will embrace even more content. Due contact with japanese community in Brazil, they will adopt even shintoist divinities in their pantheon.
