Afghans don't look European for the most part, I think we can all agree to that but there is a certain type of people around the Pamirs that look surprisingly Balkan. I'm not sure why but I have first hand experience as I've been in those regions (not on the Afghan side though). They look along this lines:

Not only in the Pamirs but even in a urban city like Kabul you can find types like the second man







Notice how they stand out among folks from a clearly different ethnicity ( those kids looks straight out of bamyan , hazarajat)

Romanians don't look like either as a whole but have consistent overlap to both I guess.

I can only judge by photos I've seen around, so it's not an informed opinion, but I see a lot of British brunets that look quite neutral and average and a good percentage of Romanians may match that, by coincidence, there where Eastern Euro and Oriental features are missing, leaving a neutral face, usually of an Alpinized Mediterranean, and I also see overlap with Afghans, especially in our countryside, and it's not a rare occurrence.

hard to compare overall because of the radically different grooming styles between the three countries, who are culturally so different one from another, three different worlds, but there is overlap with both for sure, and it's not something rare. with similar grooming it might be slightly closer to Afghans because of larger shared Mediterranean and Dinaric types, but it's only from pictures, don't take me too seriously.

main component in Afghans is by far BMAC, which is heavily CHG, right?

It's evenly split between BMAC and steppe among east / north east afghans depending on individuals , whereas in the south it's BMAC mainly and steppe .

I think people have a misconception about what an Afghan looks like . If you are talking about hazaras , Uzbeks turkmens and those odd looking Persian speakers from urban cities ( a Mish mash of Turkic / iranic ) then hell no, Romanians certainly look closer to brits . In fact romanians from up north are reallt light and they eastern European more than anything , so certainly more British than afghan . But Romania do have Alot of Med types as well some type of Dinarid / pontid in which Afghans also have . We also have alpine types that could be mistaken for gorid etc with grooming.

Romanians look different, but still more like brits than afghans.
It would been an entire different story if afghans were swapped with turks
