^ ^ .... speaking of names within the clergy...
I always found it interesting how popes ( the heads of the catholic church , centuries back once the rulers of all christendom ) never used their own personal names...

.. seriously, I couldn't come up with any other title / profession in which people would be known under different names.

Well... maybe earthen names sound too 'mortal'.

.. I kind of wonder why there hasn't been a pope named 'Petrus II.' yet..

That would be 'it' for christendom..

.. you know, Petrus' real name is said to have been Simon or Shimon, depending on a greek-based Bible- translation or the original aramaic..

... since the Bible was also translated into Latin , 'petrus' means 'the rock' in Latin since Jesus allegedly said to Simon "You are the rock upon which I want to build my church.."

.. I have to say.. the way Christianity became an organized religion..

As most know, it was first taken on by Roman emperor Constantine and in time, gotta say , the doctrine of Jesus became somewhat 'Rome-anised '..

It is said that Jesus had his followers, like a wandering preacher...It's said that the early Christians lived in communities..

When it became the Roman state-religion, the 'Pontifex Maximus', the head of the Roman religion since old times , became the pope as the alleged successor of Paul, "the rock upon which Jesus wanted to build his church".....

    Roman Pagan Pontifex

    .. the Pontifices of today

When Jesus said "upon this rock" he was not referring to Peter, but the mass of rock they were all standing there on, Ceasaria Philipi. This was notable because Ceasaria Philipi was known widely as "the gates of hell". There was a popular spring that pan worshipers would throw their babies into there. Catholics use this verse to bring credibility to their claim of apostolic succession from Peter, but what Jesus was showing us was that his kingdom was coming to this earth. That's why he then said that even the gates of hell would not prevail against it.

And Peter was named Simon by his earthly father, but Peter by his heavenly father, God. This happened many times in the Bible.

The haters of Christ saw that they wouldn't win by way of democide, so they had to be more clever and make a false version to be used to gain the sentiments of believers and use them to gain power. Christianity was far more widespread than we think, though naturally this was covered up as well, for example the church in glastonbury established by Joseph of Arimethea and no doubt satellite churches. As in scripture, many throughout Europe had accepted Christ readily by being given understanding of how he was the fruition of their ancient religion, eg. The Logos of the Greeks. By the time of the takeover, the most sincere Christians had been pushed underground, and those willing to adopt the foreign teachings of the Nicoliatins for example had been allowed to stay. It is most harmonious with the whole of scripture to see that grand mass deception is prophecied but yet a remnant of pure believers would always remain.
"Virtue grows stronger at the wound"
    "There is safety in discrimination"
"James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the 12 tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting." James 1:1
