Nah. The Reformation would beg to differ, as would scores of theologians. Some of our most devoted and religious citizens are descended from these folks. They are followers of *Biblical* Christianity, not the traditions of some established State church.

The expulsion of the equipment manufacturer Adidas as a partner of the German national football team in favor of the American Nike caused great emotions in Germany on Friday, even in the ranks of the authorities which are often criticised for lack of patriotism, writes AFP.

The German Football Association (DFB) caused quite a stir on Thursday by announcing a partnership with American giant Nike for the period 2027 to 2034, ending more than 70 years of loyalty to the Bavarian company Adidas. The announcement comes less than three months before the start of EURO-2024 on German soil (June 14 - July 14).

In Germany, in full economic decline, which doubts its attractiveness, the expulsion of Adidas further darkens the picture, after another symbol of German industry raised dust - the car manufacturer Volkswagen was dropped as a EURO partner in favor of Chinese rival BYD.

"I can hardly imagine a German jersey without the three stripes of the German Adidas brand," reacted the Minister of Economy and Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck. "Adidas and black-red-yellow, the colors of the German flag, have always been inseparable for me, as part of the German identity. I would appreciate a little more local patriotism".

Disappointment was also expressed by the Minister of Health, Social Democrat Karl Lauterbach . Choosing an American company to outfit the Mannschaft is a "mistake," he said on his X account, lamenting that "profit is destroying part of the homeland and tradition."

"German football has always been a part of German economic history. The national team that played with three stripes, it was as clear as the ball is round, and the game lasts 90 minutes," said Markus Söder , the president of the government of Bavaria, a region in southern Germany where is also the headquarters of Adidas.

"This is about money," criticizes the influential magazine Der Spiegel, while unconfirmed media reports talk about a contract worth 100 million euros a year. The popular Bild newspaper was one of the few on Friday to approve the deal, highlighting the DFB's financial difficulties. "Tradition doesn't pay the bills," claims the daily.

The DFB had already predicted negative reactions. "We understand every emotion. The breakup with Adidas does not leave us cold, but Nike presented by far the best economic offer," DFB announced on the X network a few hours after the announcement of the contract. In addition to the contract with Nike, DFB also announced a contract with the Tik Tok platform developed by the Chinese company ByteDance, which will become the "official entertainment partner" of the men's national team.

The announcement comes as a shock for Adidas a week after the presentation of the EURO jersey collection, including one with a pink and purple transition that caused a stir in the country, the daily Süddeutsche Zeitung points out.

Nike makes awful uniforms. I hope Croatia leaves them someday. They destroyed England shirt too, when they took the deal from Umbro, British company that made classic beautiful kits. As for Germany deal, it's just wrong. But it doesn't help last away kit made by Adidas is awful LGBT looking;

Yeah. Smaller Italian companies like Kappa or Macron for example make beautiful kits. But Germany just should always have Adidas kits. When France went from Adidas to Nike I was shocked because we grew up with Adidas tricolor sleeves on French kits too. And at least Nike makes decent kits for France. Still it's not it.

Nike is lately losing massive money in football industry and lost bunch of players so this is very surprising. While Adidas signed all hot young stars and made great retro collections, like return of Predator boots with fold over tongue which instantly sold out.

Kits Nike made in last few seasons are extremely lazy and uninspired.
