Yeah, Catalan nationalism is very much a bizarre form of civic nationalism where everyone can be Catalan as long as they vote a certain way.

The few ethnic-nationalists catalans that maybe exist, are ridiculed and 'fascistized' by the only nationalist humor show in the only nationalist catalan TV.
It's about 'the first catalan newborn' of the year. Since years ago they're always moroccans or latin-americans and you have to wait several days or weeks until a 'true catalan' is born.

A couple in love doesn't give a flying fugue what an independent third party thinks about the reasons they are together. Especially when those reasons are based on people clicking all the boxes of a stereotype. Stereotypes exist for a reason but most members of the group do not fit the stereotypes of the group. It is easy to see why extrapolating from the stereotype to the entire group is shortsighted and off-course.

In defense of the OP I believe he said before his parents where older when he was born. As an older guy born in the south it was unthinkable to even date a non-white and families would disown their kin over it.

I was a kid in the 60s and all mixed kids lived in the black part of town. Like it or not that was how things where in the old south.

Did you watched Mudbound on netflix? It is about the 1940s south, shortly after the second world war, segregation, race mixing etc.

Never watched it and rarely watch shows, I prefer to read. I grew up in those times and didn't go to school with blacks until 4 grade. Today the south is a total new world compared to then. Richmondbreads parents probably had the same experience and passed these values to him.

I guess I wasn't clear. My point was more general.

All groups have stereotypes. The truth is most people in that group do not fit into those stereotypes. If an argument is based on stereotypes, then the argument is invalid for most people of that group.

This is independent of the validity of the argument for those who fall into the stereotypes.

Makes sense to Meade because he doesn't think blacks are people. But things like The Green Book show that life wasn't ideal. But he probably doesn't believe the Green Book existed because he doesn't want to.
